Islamabad: The 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) opened on Thursday in Islamabad and will continue for two days, with the participation of nine member states in addition to the host country.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting aims to enhance regional cooperation in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. The discussions are focused on strengthening regional resilience to disasters through innovation and technology, reinforcing coordination mechanisms, aligning disaster risk reduction frameworks, and improving collective preparedness to address cross-border risks and climate-induced hazards across the ECO region.
Discussions will center on leveraging technological solutions, data sharing, early warning systems, and innovative practices to respond to evolving risks in the region. This marks the first time Pakistan has hosted an ECO ministerial meeting on disaster risk reduction.
