Islamic Development Bank Commits USD 603 Million to Pakistan for Infrastructure, Education, and Social Development

Islamabad: The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has signed three financing agreements with the government of Pakistan worth a total of USD 603.4 million, aimed at supporting social development, infrastructure and education.

According to Qatar News Agency, the first agreement, valued at USD 118.4 million, is designed to improve the livelihoods of around 68,500 families by supporting job creation and the development of human capital.

The second and largest agreement, worth USD 475 million, will finance the construction of the M6 motorway. The 120.8km highway forms part of the Peshawar-Karachi motorway network and is expected to help complete the missing link in the country's north-south transport corridor, improving connectivity and economic activity.

The third agreement, valued at USD 10 million, will support a project aimed at educating out-of-school children. The initiative is expected to benefit around 60,000 children through non-formal education pathways. It also includes plans to upgrade 135 schools, establish 250 learning centers, train 4,000 teachers, and build flexible and adaptable educational facilities.

The bank said the agreements reflect its continued commitment to supporting Pakistan's development priorities, particularly in infrastructure, education and social inclusion.
