Ramallah:Israeli authorities have issued 9,518 demolition and stop-work orders between 2015 and the end of September, as part of policies aimed at controlling Palestinian territory and constraining urban expansion, according to a report by the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission (CWRC).
According to Qatar News Agency, the CWRC report details that the cumulative number of notices issued from 2015 through 2025 stands at 9,174, with an additional 344 notices issued during the first nine months of 2026. Hebron recorded the highest number of notices during this period, with 2,697, followed by Bethlehem with 1,310, Ramallah and Al-Bireh with 1,118, and Jerusalem with 929.
The report highlights that annual figures rose from 701 in 2015 to 1,333 in 2023, before dropping to 939 in 2024 and then rebounding to 991 in 2025. The CWRC also noted the challenges faced by Palestinians in securing construction permits, as approval rates for building applications in Area C remain conspicuously low.
The commission emphasized that these Israeli actions are a primary tool leveraged to control Palestinian lands, grounded in policies of land impoundment and restricted access, which disrupt urban and economic development. Furthermore, the CWRC stated that these actions contradict the international rules-based order regarding the protection of private property under occupation authorities’ control. The International Court of Justice’s 2024 advisory opinion also classified discriminatory licensing practices and razing operations as a form of prohibited discrimination.
