Italy, Palestine Discuss Efforts to Consolidate Ceasefire, Deliver Aid to Gaza

Rome: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met in Rome today with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to discuss efforts to consolidate the ceasefire, deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and implement the second phase of President Trump's plan.

According to Qatar News Agency, the two sides discussed the necessity of an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the commencement of reconstruction, emphasizing the need to prevent displacement. They also discussed the importance of achieving a comprehensive truce in the West Bank, halting settlement activity and annexation attempts, releasing withheld Palestinian funds, and ending attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The Palestinian President affirmed the deep and enduring historical ties between the Palestinian and Italian peoples, expressing his appreciation for Italy's humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, its medical treatment of wounded children, its training of Palestinian police, and its participation in the European monitoring force at the Rafah crossing.
