Doha: Japan stocks edged higher at the close of a volatile trading session on Wednesday, though gains were capped by a decline in chip stocks amid profit-taking by investors.
According to Qatar News Agency, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 132.47 points, or 0.33%, to close at 39,821.28. The broader Topix index finished 11.62 points, or 0.41%, higher at 2,828.16. In currency markets, the US dollar strengthened by 0.19% against the yen, trading at 146.85. Meanwhile, the yield on 10-year Japanese government bonds (JGBs) climbed by more than 1 basis point to 1.501%.
