London: A joint statement has been issued by the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom on the occasion of the state visit by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The meeting, hosted by the UK Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street, marked a significant step in enhancing the longstanding partnership between the two nations. According to Qatar News Agency, the leaders from both countries have agreed upon an ambitious Future Framework aimed at solidifying their cooperation. This framework builds upon the 2010 UK-Qatar Dynamic Partnership, focusing on four priority areas: generational security partnership, expanded economic partnership, joint action on global issues, and enhanced connectivity between people. The UK-Qatar Strategic Dialogue will further oversee the development of this framework, with the next meeting scheduled for Spring 2025. In terms of security, both countries have agreed to strengthen their defense capabilities, particularly through the extension of the Joint Squadron 12 partnership. Th is includes a historic 50-year defense land partnership agreement and the procurement of additional Typhoon jets by Qatar. Furthermore, they will explore maritime training opportunities and strengthen internal security collaboration through a new cyber security Memorandum of Understanding. On the economic front, the partnership has seen substantial growth, with Qatar investing over £40 billion in the UK economy. The Qatar Investment Authority will pursue further investments, focusing on clean energy, technology, and life sciences. A significant climate technology partnership with Rolls-Royce is set to create thousands of jobs and establish climate technology hubs across both nations. The joint efforts extend to global challenges, where both countries reaffirm their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. The UK recognizes Qatar's mediation efforts in global conflicts and both nations advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza. They plan to double their development cooperation co-funding initiative to co ntribute to the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. In enhancing connectivity, the UK and Qatar aim to deepen cultural, educational, and people-to-people ties. This includes fostering cultural exchange, expanding educational opportunities, and promoting tourism and creative industries collaboration, further strengthening the bond between the two nations.
