Baghdad: King Abdullah II of Jordan has emphasized that the future, security, and stability of the Middle East region are closely tied to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue. He noted that the endurance of the Palestinian people in their homeland is a defining factor of the current era.
According to Qatar News Agency, the King's message was delivered by Dr. Jaafar Hassan, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, during the 34th Arab Summit held in Baghdad, Iraq. King Abdullah II highlighted that the immediate priority should be to stop the conflict in Gaza and address the ensuing humanitarian crisis. He called for international cooperation to secure an immediate and enduring ceasefire and to ensure the swift delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The King criticized the international community's failure to halt the conflict in Gaza, noting the breach of international laws and norms. He urged for a unified international stance to support a plan for Gaza's reconstruction. He also mentioned that violations in Jerusalem and the West Bank, including land seizures and settlement constructions, will not bring security and peace to Israel but will entrench the region in ongoing conflicts.
King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan's solidarity with Lebanon, supporting its efforts to maintain sovereignty and operationalize state institutions. He also called for efforts to resolve regional crises, emphasizing the need to end the Yemeni crisis, support Libya's political process, and ensure Sudan regains civil stability.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam addressed the summit, stating that Lebanon is committed to reforms and restoring state authority over all arms. He called for international pressure on Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territories and emphasized Lebanon's policy against interfering in other nations' affairs. Salam highlighted the lack of accountability that enables Israeli violations and affirmed Lebanon's stance against relocating Palestinians.
Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf, speaking on behalf of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underscored the Palestinian cause as central to Arab interests, warning against schemes aimed at its dissolution. Tebboune condemned Israel's actions and called for solidarity with Lebanon and Syria, emphasizing their unity and territorial integrity as crucial to regional stability.
Tebboune also stressed the need to revisit initiatives to resolve crises in Sudan, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia, advocating for a collective approach to shared regional challenges.
