Ramallah - Ma'an - The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate confirmed the escalation of targeting journalists in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank through a series of crimes, attacks and violations committed last June, the most prominent of which were in the Gaza Strip and the city of Jerusalem. A report issued by the Freedoms Committee of the Syndicate indicated that the occupation army forces and settlers escalated targeting through various means by committing 127 violations, crimes and attacks. The report stated that 6 journalists were martyred in the Gaza Strip, 3 of them were directly targeted by missiles on their homes, one was targeted by a drone, the fifth was killed by missile shrapnel, and the last was martyred due to a lack of medicine and not receiving treatment due to the closure of the crossings. Meanwhile, 6 houses of journalists were bombed in the Gaza Strip, killing 5 of their relatives. The month of June also witnessed 8 fatal injuries in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank that required treatm ent in hospitals and medical centers. While 2 cases of arrest and 5 cases of unfair military courts were monitored. The statement indicated that 45 colleagues, both male and female, were subjected to cases of detention and being prevented from working. The most difficult case in the West Bank was the serious assault by the occupation army and settlers on dozens of journalists in the city of Jerusalem during their coverage of the so-called 'media march,' in which they sustained various injuries. Meanwhile, the Far'a refugee camp, the village of Kafr Dan, and the city of Qalqilya witnessed similar incidents of assaults against journalists during coverage. The statement also noted the increase in the phenomenon of brandishing weapons at journalists, as well as shooting near them, in a clear threat to the lives of about 25 people who experienced the situation last month. Meanwhile, 8 journalists were physically beaten and 6 of them were verbally threatened. The report warned that the escalation in targeting j ournalists indicates future crimes that the occupation seeks to commit without evidence, which requires serious interventions by international organizations.
