Katara Publishing House Hosts Book Signing for “Famous Camel Breeds in the Gulf” at DIBF

Doha: As part of the 34th edition of the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF), the Katara Publishing House pavilion hosted a book signing event for author Khaled Mohsen Hazam Andeila's book, "Famous Camel Breeds in the Gulf." Director of Katara Publishing House Amira Ahmed Al Muhannadi stated that one of the most engaging aspects of the pavilion is the launch of its latest publications, drawing significant interest from visitors.

According to Qatar News Agency, author Khaled Andeila explained that his book documents the most renowned camel breeds in the Gulf, aiming to preserve reliable information about these breeds before it fades away. The research and publication process took approximately three years.

Andeila noted that one of the biggest challenges was the scarcity of written sources on Gulf camel breeds, leading him to rely heavily on oral accounts from elderly experts who possess in-depth knowledge of the subject. He verified stories by comparing them with the few existing sources available.

Highlighting Qatar's deep-rooted connection with camels, Andeila referenced historical records showing that Qatar was renowned for a particular breed known as "Al Qatariyat." Historians also noted that Qatar was known for a thriving camel market, trading prized breeds. The nation has long possessed exceptional racing camels that remain significant in Qatari cultural heritage and Nabati poetry.

Andeila emphasized that camel racing in Qatar, both historically and in modern times, holds numerous milestones deserving attention from heritage researchers. He also revealed that he is currently working on an expanded and revised second edition of his book, following requests from camel enthusiasts in Qatar and neighboring Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Oman, and the UAE, where he has received additional insights into both historic and modern camel breeds.
