Kenyan Lawmaker Shot Dead in Nairobi

Nairobi: Kenyan authorities announced today that a member of parliament (MP) was shot dead on a street in the capital, Nairobi.

According to Qatar News Agency, Kenya's National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, stated that Charles Ong'ondo Were, who represents Kasipul constituency in Kenya's west, was killed in an attack on Ngong Road in the capital, Nairobi. He noted that the lawmaker was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle.

Initial investigations revealed that one of the gunmen got off a motorcycle and opened fire at the MP at close range, fatally wounding him.

Were was a member of the Movement for Democracy, led by Raila Odinga, who lost the 2022 presidential election to Kenyan President William Ruto. He contested the result before joining forces with Ruto in recent months.
