Kuwait city: The 22nd session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Information Ministers convened in Kuwait on Wednesday. In his opening remarks, Minister of State for Communication Affairs and Information Technology of Kuwait, Omar Al Omar, emphasized the need for combined Arab media efforts to address rapid regional and international changes. He highlighted the importance of building a responsible media discourse that protects public awareness and serves the causes of the Arab nations.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Palestinian cause remains central in the Arab media discourse. Kuwait reiterated its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights until an independent state is established, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. Al Omar stressed Kuwait's dedication to backing this cause and noted the role of media in managing crises and creating awareness amid the growth of digital media and AI technologies. He highlighted the responsibility to confront rumors, bolster credibility, and redirect media rhetoric for social stability.
Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Media and Communication, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, emphasized the need to trigger global conscience regarding the challenges faced by the Palestinian people. He highlighted the role of Palestinian journalists in conveying the humanitarian situation in Gaza and monitoring settler assaults in the West Bank. Khattabi called for collective media support and the use of digital platforms to boost global solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The General Secretariat of the Arab League's media and communications sector is committed to implementing decisions by the Council of Arab Information Ministers and enhancing inter-Arab media collaboration. Khattabi noted the significance of creating media that meets global standards to address regional challenges, including terrorism and extremism, and rectifying stereotypes about the Arab world.
Khattabi clarified that the session has a range of recommendations crafted by the permanent committee of the Arab media in collaboration with the Arab League's General Secretariat. These include enforcing the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy, the unified plan for environmental issues, the joint strategy for counter-terrorism, and the Arab Media Map for Sustainable Development 2030.
