Doha: The Ministry of Labour participated on Wednesday in a high-level session entitled "From the Informal Economy to Social Justice: Advancing Social Protection and Decent Work for All", held as part of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.
According to Qatar News Agency, the session convened heads of state, government officials, policymakers, and representatives from international and regional organisations, civil society, the private sector, and United Nations agencies. The event provided a platform to share successful regional and international experiences in social justice, decent work, and cross-border protection for migrant workers. Discussions focused on transforming international commitments into practical, measurable policy reforms, while shaping a forward-looking agenda to foster equitable, inclusive, and resilient societies.
In her opening remarks, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, highlighted that the session, organised by the Ministry of Labour, reflects Qatar's longstanding commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, underpinned by robust regional and international cooperation to advance social justice and decent work. HE Sheikha Najwa emphasised that the session's theme is central to both national and global development agendas, aligned closely with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 8, which promotes sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, decent work for all, and enhanced productivity and innovation.
She underscored Qatar's early recognition of the importance of translating these global goals into actionable national policies, achieved through advanced legislative and institutional reforms aimed at developing the labour market and strengthening social protection systems. These efforts reflect Qatar's enduring commitment to justice, equality, and equal opportunity, ensuring social wellbeing for all segments of society, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which places the human being at the centre of development.
HE Sheikha Najwa outlined key initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Labour to enhance social justice and protection. Among these, the Workers' Support and Insurance Fund stands out as a significant step in guaranteeing timely payment of workers' entitlements and enhancing social security for vulnerable groups. The Ministry has also strengthened labour inspection mechanisms, refined dispute resolution procedures, and expanded digital services to ensure transparency, efficiency, and accountability across the labour market.
Highlighting the value of international collaboration, Her Excellency noted Qatar's recent accession to the Global Coalition for Social Justice, launched by the International Labour Organization, positioning Qatar among the first countries to actively support this ambitious global initiative. This engagement demonstrates Qatar's practical commitment to social justice and equality, reinforcing its role in global efforts to build inclusive, equitable, and sustainable social protection systems.
Her Excellency emphasised that social justice is only fully realised through the integration of social protection, decent work, and the formal economy, as these elements collectively underpin social security, economic stability, productivity, and inclusive growth. In conclusion, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al-Thani, reaffirmed Qatar's dedication to continuing collaboration with regional and international partners to advance social justice, support the Sustainable Development Goals, and implement reforms that place people at the heart of development, ensuring decent work for all, without exception.
