Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati discussed developments in Lebanon with British Defense Minister John Healey today. A statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency stated that Mikati stressed during their meeting in London, the priority of an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and the importance of working with international parties to reach a diplomatic solution to fully implement Resolution 1701. Mikati called on Britain to support the efforts of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and enhance its cooperation with the Lebanese army. For his part, the British Minister stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts to stop the escalation in Lebanon, noting that his country, in cooperation with the United States, France, Italy and Germany, is supporting the Lebanese army by developing its military technologies in all fields. Lebanon has been subjected to Israeli aggression since October 2023, but since the end of last September, the Israeli entity has increased the pace of aerial and artillery bombardment in an unprecedented manner, and expanded the scope of its targeting to extend to the capital, Beirut, which led to the killing and wounding of thousands of Lebanese, in addition to forcing more than a million people to flee their homes.
