Manama, Bahrain's legislative and executive authorities held a joint meeting to review updates on participants in Khatwa (A step) Home Projects Programme, who had added previous service periods with voluntary insurance. The meeting was co-chaired by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council and Ghanim bin Fadhul Al Buainain, Minister of Shura and Representatives Councils Affairs. Government officials in attendance were Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, the Minister of Legal Affairs, Hamad bin Faisal Al Malki, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Minister of Information. The meeting focused on ensuring compliance with legal procedures related to service period additions. Minister Al Buainain, provided a detailed report on the review of 1,413 cases, confirming that 133 participants met the required criteria. However, 1,280 cases will be referred for legal action due to non-compliance, with some individuals having received pension payments without meeting the required conditions. The legislative and executive authorities highlighted the need to ensure the sustainability of pension funds and their ability to meet obligations to subscribers. They stressed the importance of proper pension distribution to eligible recipients within the framework of applicable laws and regulations, aiming to protect citizens' rights and serve the nation's best interests. The government team noted that legal measures had been taken against government employees who violated the laws and procedures of the "Khatwa" programme. Some have already been sentenced, while other cases remain under judicial review, reflecting a commitment to accountability and enhancing transparency and integrity in public administration. Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the pension funds and ensuring that pensions are distributed in line with the law, to protect citizens' rights. The meeting also highlighted the ongoing cooperation between Bahrain's legislative and executive authorities, affirming their commitment to addressing citizens' concerns and supporting national development initiatives.
