Doha: Liwan Design Studios and Labs announced the launch of a Summer Design Residency, "Shaping and Crafting the Future," a comprehensive nine-week program in partnership with Campus MaNa. This exclusive residency will take place in the picturesque region of Burgundy, France, offering three selected designers from Qatar an immersive experience in traditional crafts and contemporary design practices. According to Qatar News Agency, beginning in Summer 2025, the residency will provide participants with a unique opportunity to train under leading design experts, exploring techniques in ceramics, woodworking, brassworking, natural dyeing, and leatherworking. The program aims to stimulate reflection, research, creativity, and innovation by bringing together exceptional talents in design and architecture from Qatar. "This international residency represents our commitment to providing Qatar's design community with transformative experiences that bridge traditional craftsmanship and contemporary innovation," said A isha Nasser Al Sowaidi, Director of Liwan Design Studios and Labs. "Through this partnership with Campus MaNa, we are creating opportunities for local designers to develop global perspectives while remaining rooted in sustainable and culturally resonant practices," she added. The residency is structured in two phases: the first focuses on learning traditional craft techniques, while the second applies these skills to innovative design projects. Thomas Dariel, Founder of Campus MaNa, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration: "I am deeply honored, as the founder of Campus Mana, to welcome creators from Qatar for a residency in Burgundy. This unique region of the world has brought together the finest artisans since time immemorial." "We'll provide a multifaceted toolbox that will enable them to acquire new skills, create infinitely and meet personalities and creators from around the world," he added. The program will culminate in a major exhibition at the second edition of the Doha Design Biennale in April 2026, showcasing the participants' work and positioning at the heart of Qatar's growing creative scene on an international platform.
