Lusail International Circuit Highlights Sustainability Initiatives During Qatar Sustainability Week

Doha:Lusail International Circuit (LIC) is actively participating in the 11th edition of Qatar Sustainability Week, which runs from October 31 to November 7, 2026. This event is led by Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

According to Qatar News Agency, LIC is showcasing its commitment to sustainability through three major initiatives during the campaign. These initiatives focus on clean energy, electronic waste management, and biodiversity, particularly in the context of major sporting events such as the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar 2026 and the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2026.

LIC has installed rooftop solar PV with a capacity of approximately 1.24 MWp, contributing to the venue’s electricity supply and expected to generate about 120 MWh of energy over a three-week period. This is part of LIC’s long-term climate goals, aiming to reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, LIC has implemented energy-efficient technologies such as building management systems and LED display walls, and is integrating electric and solar-powered equipment into event operations.

The circuit is also focusing on waste management by upcycling event materials, promoting the use of recycled materials, and implementing a comprehensive recycling program. LIC has distributed drawstring bags made from upcycled banners, and is offering 100% recycled PET water bottles with a high recovery target. Multistream waste bins, recycling stations, and an on-site segregation yard are being used to manage waste, while surplus food is redirected to donation programs.

LIC’s biodiversity efforts include maintaining a green perimeter with a significant number of trees and landscaped areas, which provide a foundation for future biodiversity planning. The circuit’s environmental management is supported by its FIA Three Star Environmental Accreditation, participation in the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action framework, and recognition in the 2026 Sustainable Circuits Index.

The sustainability efforts coincide with upcoming events at the circuit, including the MotoGP Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar 2026 from November 6 to 8, and the FORMULA 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2026 from November 27 to 29.
