Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Strikes Southern Kermadec Islands Off Coast of New Zealand

Doha: An earthquake measuring magnitude 4.8 on the Richter scale struck on Wednesday south of the Kermadec Islands off the coast of New Zealand.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. No tsunami warnings were issued following the seismic event.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far. The Kermadec Islands, located about 1,000 kilometers northeast of New Zealand's North Island, are frequently subjected to strong earthquakes.
