Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Strikes China’s Gansu Province

Gansu: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck on Monday Tebo County in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Gansu Province.

According to Qatar News Agency, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km. Chinese authorities have stated that no casualties have been reported in the affected areas so far, although cracks have been observed in some buildings.

Officials added that the prefecture has activated its Level III emergency response for earthquake disasters. This earthquake follows a 5.1-magnitude quake that struck Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province, southwest China, last week.
