Lima: An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Peru on Sunday. The seismic event occurred 94 kilometers southeast of the city of Trujillo, which has a population of over 700,000.
According to Qatar News Agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the earthquake's epicenter was located at depths between 30 and 66 kilometers. Peru experiences significant seismic activity annually due to its position on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions along the western coast of the South American continent.
