Manama, The General Directorate of Marine Resources has conducted 3,644 inspection visits in the first half of this year as part of its efforts to preserve natural resources, enhance marine stock, and regulate fishing practices. The directorate emphasised its commitment to safeguarding marine resources and promoting sustainable fishing through various initiatives and programmes. These efforts include intensified inspection campaigns along coasts and public markets, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure legal and proper fishing practices and optimal use of the marine environment. According to the directorate, the inspections were carried out across Bahrain's governorates, with 1,183 visits in Muharraq, 1,066 in the Capital Governorate, 825 in the Northern Governorate, and 570 in the Southern Governorate. These inspections resulted in 93 violations, and appropriate legal action was taken in coordination with the concerned authorities. The inspections covered public coasts, central markets, fi sh shops, and outdoor stalls, verifying fishing licences, fishing gear and methods, permissible fish types according to fishing seasons, and the safety procedures of workers. The General Directorate of Marine Resources highlighted its ongoing coordination with relevant authorities to intensify inspection campaigns across all governorates to combat any practices that threaten fish stock and marine resources. The directorate called on the public to support national efforts to combat illegal practices by adhering to regulations and reporting any violations through the Fisherman Service at 38488040 or the national suggestion and complaint system (Tawasul).
