The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is set to participate in the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family (IYF) conference, organized by the Doha International Family Institute - a member of Qatar Foundation, scheduled for Oct. 30-31, 2024, at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The conference will highlight the Ministry's role in enabling Qatari families to safely and sustainably benefit from rapid digital transformation. The Ministry's special hub will focus on 2 flagship initiatives: "Safe Space," which aims to protect families and young people in the digital environment, and "Studio 5," which empowers youth to develop digital skills and achieve their creative ambitions. The hub will also feature a variety of interactive activities that underscore the importance of integrating ethical values with technology. Reem Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT, emphasized the importance of participating in this conference, stating: "Our participation underscores our commitment to supporting families in the digital world, where we focus on promoting Arab and ethical values through activities and initiatives that allow families to benefit from modern technology safely and responsibly. We also strive to equip families with the skills and tools to harness modern technology, safeguard individuals from digital risks, and foster a safe and effective use of technology." The Ministry's active participation will focus on ethics in the digital world, including raising family awareness about the importance of values and ethical principles in interacting with technology, such as honesty, respect, and integrity. Additionally, it will offer workshops and informative lectures on personal data protection and digital privacy for families amidst the rapid advancements in information technology. The conference, which convenes once every 10 years to commemorate the International Year of the Family, will bring together over 2,000 participants, including pol icymakers, researchers, practitioners, parents, and youth, as well as more than 100 speakers and 400 young attendees from over 80 countries, including 150 from Qatar. Leading global experts and thought leaders will participate in meaningful discussions, panel sessions, and innovative exhibitions. The conference will also address family-friendly policies and best practices, working towards establishing strategic partnerships to ensure the sustainability of family welfare and social development. MCIT's participation reaffirms its commitment to developing digital infrastructure and advanced technologies that serve families. The Ministry plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing policies related to digital transformation, strengthening families' ability to adapt to modern digital challenges and prosper in an advanced digital environment.
