Doha: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) highlighted its central role in supporting government digital transformation and enhancing the adoption of cloud computing technologies in Qatar, as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve the Digital Agenda 2030 goals and build an advanced digital infrastructure that fosters innovation and drives sustainable development. The ministry presented its initiatives during the Google Cloud Summit Doha 2025 held Thursday.
According to Qatar News Agency, during the summit, which celebrated the second anniversary of Google Cloud's regional launch in Qatar, HE Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai honored several government entities collaborating with Google Cloud that have made significant advancements in adopting cloud solutions and strengthening digital transformation within their sectors.
The recognition underscores the contributions of these entities in improving operational efficiency and enhancing digital services, aligning with the ministry's vision of establishing an integrated, smart government system capable of keeping pace with global digital transformations. The event also highlighted the critical role of public-private partnerships in accelerating digital transformation and fostering an environment conducive to innovation.
In a panel discussion on purpose-driven innovation, MCIT's Director of Digital Innovation Eman Al Kuwari emphasized the ongoing digital transformation efforts in Qatar, showcasing key ministry-led initiatives, including the AI Sandbox, XR Sandbox, smart city solutions, and digital public services. She underscored the vital role of strategic partnerships in accelerating the adoption of emerging technologies and the importance of investing in national talent, particularly youth.
At its dedicated exhibition booth, the ministry highlighted several major national projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening Qatar's digital infrastructure. Among the highlighted projects was "Fanar," the Arab AI initiative, which represents a significant advancement in AI applications related to Arabic language and culture. This initiative aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the pillars of the Digital Agenda 2030.
The ministry also presented an interactive demonstration of the XR Sandbox, a virtual environment designed for the development and testing of extended reality applications, alongside the AI Sandbox, which provides support for innovators and entrepreneurs developing AI-driven solutions. Additionally, the ministry showcased its professional development program, which aims to train and empower national talent according to global best practices.
During the summit, MCIT's Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Sami Al Shammari emphasized that the ministry's participation reflects its firm commitment to digital transformation as a key strategic pillar of government operations. Al Shammari described the partnership with Google Cloud as an effective model for accelerating institutional cloud adoption, ensuring that government entities are digitally prepared and capable of maintaining secure and resilient operations. Currently, 56 government entities benefit from Google Cloud's scalable and secure solutions, ensuring business continuity and improved operational efficiency.
Al Shammari also highlighted the Overseas Internship Program launched in Dublin in collaboration with Google Cloud, describing it as a significant step toward developing national expertise capable of leading and localizing advanced technologies in alignment with the Digital Agenda 2030.
The ministry's participation in the Google Cloud Summit served as a platform to showcase its strategic partnership with Google Cloud, which now includes 56 government entities. This collaboration is a cornerstone of Qatar's digital transformation efforts, ensuring a reliable, secure cloud infrastructure that enhances operational efficiency, guarantees business continuity, and equips government agencies to meet future digital demands.
