Meta Launches Its Own Application for Generative AI

Meta: Meta unveiled Tuesday its first standalone app for artificial intelligence (AI) assistance services, in an attempt to compete with ChatGPT by giving its users a direct path to generative AI models. Meta CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that one billion people currently use Meta AI across the company's apps, so a standalone version of it has been designed for users to try.

According to Qatar News Agency, Meta AI is based on the Lama generative AI model, whose open-source versions are very popular among developers and businesses and have been downloaded more than a billion times. The company said in a statement that the use of the new Lama 4 model enables more personalized and interactive responses. If the user grants permission, Meta AI can also link with Facebook or Instagram accounts.

It is available in the U.S. and Canada.
