Meta has reportedly proposed a monthly subscription fee for using Instagram and Facebook without ads for $14 per month for an ad-free experience on these platforms.
The proposal is an attempt by Meta to circumvent European Union regulations that threaten to curb its ability to personalize ads for users without their consent and hurt its major revenue source.
Meta said it will give users the choice between continuing to access Facebook and Instagram for free with special ads, or paying for versions of the services without any ads.
Under the plan, Meta would charge users roughly 10 euros a month on a desktop for a Facebook or Instagram account, and roughly 6 euros for each additional linked account.
