Microsoft has officially announced the next generation of OneDrive, with improvements to user interface and experience and new AI features.
According to the official blog, the third generation of its OneDrive cloud storage focuses on easily finding all the stored files and the AI Copilot to help quickly search, organize, and extract relevant information from files.
Microsoft added Shared view, where files that have been shared with you, regardless of how it was shared or who shared it, now show up in that section, in addition to People view, which organizes your files by the people you work with.
Microsoft now provides the ability to choose the colors of your folders and to open documents and other files in non-Office applications on the desktop to view. Microsoft is also planning to roll out new photo and video-based features to add files to favorites and facilitate sorting files according to their type, among other features.
Microsoft has also integrated the Copilot AI system into OneDrive, facilitating file search through natural language search, generating summaries of shared files, and suggesting follow-up actions. The new AI-powered feature will be available by December for all customers who have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
Microsoft plans to launch more new features over the next year, including Offline Mode to access files in the absence of an Internet connection
