Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday renewed calls to speed up the election of a new president of the republic, stressing the necessity to reach an understanding over the upcoming stage at all levels. "I renew my call to elect a new president in order to cease the sectarian exploitation of the issue, and to agree over the nature of the coming phase at all levels," he said. Speaking during his patronage of the launch of the health ministry's 2023-2028 national plan for beating cancer at the Grand Serail, Mikati said that sectarianism is a cancer that hits the nation's body, deeming it more dangerous than that which hits the human body.
