Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan presented an artwork to the South African Embassy in appreciation of its support for the Palestinian cause. Hamdan appreciated the efforts of South Africa and the full support it provides to the Palestinian cause, as well as its filing of a lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice, and its recent appeal to the International Criminal Court to intervene and prosecute Israeli leaders on charges of committing war crimes and genocide in Gaza. This came during his meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to the State of Palestine, Sean Beneveldt, today, Monday, and presented him with an artwork by the artist Hiba Shanan as a message of thanks and appreciation for South Africa's support for the Palestinian cause. The artwork embodies the idea of South Africa's role as a mother carrying Palestine and its capital, Jerusalem, on her back and embracing her angel child, who was killed by Israel and continued to raise the olive branch as a symbol of peace. Minister Hamdan said that the relationship between the two countries was characterised by historical supportive stances, the most prominent of which was the relationship between the late martyred President Abu Ammar and leader Nelson Mandela. Their first meeting was immediately after Mandela's release from prison, praising South Africa's distinguished role in solidarity with Palestine, its people and its just cause. In turn, Ambassador Sean said that this painting reflects reality, as we understand what injustice and racism mean, and Mandela said that our freedom is not complete as long as Palestine is under occupation, so we went to the International Court of Justice, and we will continue to fight against crimes and violence Source: Maan News Agency
