Doha: HE Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association (QSGA), Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater, has issued a decision restructuring the Board of Directors as part of regulating its operation and strengthening its role in advancing the scouts and guides movement.
According to Qatar News Agency, the board's new formation, chaired by Her Excellency, appoints Salem Jaber Al Harami as Vice Chairman; Ghanem Abdulrahman Al Kuwari as Commissioner-General; and Susan Zaghmout as Assistant Commissioner-General.
The board includes representatives from several entities, such as Ahmed Mohammed Al Harami from the Ministry of Sports and Youth; Salah Mahmoud Al Saadi from the Qatar Olympic Committee; Brig. Gen. Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Al Sumeih from the Ministry of Interior; Abdullah Shafi Al Qahtani from the Ministry of Defence; Moath Youssef Hassan from the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs; Abdulrahman Al Ishaq from Qatar Museums; and Abdullah Hamed Al Mulla from the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS).
Additional representatives from civil society and one or more representatives of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education will be co-opted by a decision from the Minister.
The decision also mandates that the board shall have premises as determined by the Minister. It outlines the authorities and functions assigned to the board in accordance with the enforced regulations.
QSGA plays a significant role in advancing the scouts and guides movement in Qatar, having been established in 1956. The association aims to prepare children and young people through comprehensive education and leadership training, organizing scouts activities, camps, and conferences domestically, and facilitating participation in Arab and international scouts fora.
QSGA promotes values of citizenship, volunteerism, and belonging among children and young people, aligning with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly the human development pillar.
