Doha: HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie met with Dr. Rolph Payet, Executive Secretary of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, during the Chemical Safety Symposium held under the theme "Towards the Effective and Safe Management of Chemicals." The symposium, which began on Monday, is a two-day event.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting addressed cooperation between the two parties and explored ways to enhance international partnerships in chemical safety, waste management, and hazardous pollutant monitoring. They also discussed the exchange of technical expertise in these areas.
HE the Minister emphasized Qatar's dedication to supporting international initiatives aimed at tackling global environmental challenges, particularly those related to biodiversity loss and pollution. He highlighted the significance of strengthening collaboration with the conventions' secretariats to develop national policies and enhance capacity in these critical areas.
Dr. Rolph Payet praised Qatar's efforts in sound chemical and waste management, sustainability, and environmental protection. He expressed the Executive Secretariat's willingness to broaden cooperation with Qatar through joint projects and programs that align with global environmental objectives.
