Minister of State for Energy Affairs Highlights LNG’s Role in Sustainable Energy Future

Doha: HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi emphasized the future of gas as a sustainable energy source, citing its increasing demand driven by global economic growth, artificial intelligence, and data centers. "QatarEnergy, along with its partners, is building LNG for the future with the lowest carbon footprint you can have," he stated, underscoring the company's global presence in oil and gas exploration.

According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency reiterated the enduring necessity of oil, countering the narrative of its obsolescence by 2030. He highlighted the essential role of energy in prosperity, especially for a billion people lacking basic electricity, stressing the need for inclusive growth.

HE the Minister also pointed to the demand dynamics in the LNG industry, noting the significant role of Asian economies and the Middle East's growing population. He emphasized the importance of balancing gas with renewable energy sources to meet regional power needs.

On environmental concerns, the Minister stressed the importance of adopting technologies to reduce emissions, such as CO2 sequestration, to provide affordable and responsible energy. He urged policymakers to acknowledge realistic energy solutions and engage with industry experts.

The session addressed global LNG demand and supply challenges, with a focus on affordability, security, and reliability. Shell's CEO Wael Sawan highlighted the steady growth in energy demand, equating it to Switzerland's monthly consumption and stressing LNG's role in supporting renewables and replacing coal.

ExxonMobil's Darren Woods emphasized gas as a reliable and affordable energy source, essential for meeting growing electricity needs while reducing emissions. He described gas as a versatile solution for the future.

ConocoPhillips' Ryan Lance predicted a doubling of global energy demand in 20 years, with gas playing a crucial role in enhancing energy security and reducing carbon emissions compared to coal.

Total Energies' Patrick Pouyanne highlighted advancements in reducing LNG costs, making it accessible and affordable, which is vital for future gas demand development.
