Geneva: HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed held several significant meetings on Thursday, engaging with prominent figures such as HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan, HE Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, HE Minister of Commerce of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi, and Executive Director of the International Trade Centre Pamela Coke-Hamilton. These meetings were part of his participation in the 16th UNCTAD Conference.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Minister also engaged with various company officials and private sector representatives. The discussions, which took place on the sidelines of the UNCTAD16 conference in Geneva, revolved around enhancing international cooperation and implementing sustainable development strategies. The conference, held from October 20 to 23, was themed "Shaping the future: Driving economic transformation for equitable, inclusive and sustainable development" and attracted senior officials and decision-makers globally.
In a separate meeting with Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD Pedro Manuel Moreno, the Minister discussed Qatar's hosting of the next World Investment Forum. Earlier today, Qatar expressed its readiness to host the ninth session of the World Investment Forum (WIF 2026), with dates to be determined later. This announcement was made during a high-level session of the UNCTAD16 conference.
The upcoming forum in Doha 2026 aims to explore promoting sustainable investment amidst current global challenges, including climate change, digitalization, sustainable finance, food security, and clean energy. The event will contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
