Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, through its Wildlife Development Department, has initiated an integrated research project to evaluate the biodiversity in Rawdat Umm Al Jamajim, near the Al-Karaana area. This effort is part of the national initiative to protect and ensure the sustainability of Qatar's desert environment.
According to Qatar News Agency, the first phase of the project involved organizing a comprehensive field campaign at the site. Experts and specialists from the ministry participated in this phase, focusing on cleaning the garden and cataloging its plant components. This work is a precursor to gathering the essential data needed for the next research phase.
Adel Mohammed Al Yafei, Head of the Wildlife Development Department, stated that the project marks a significant scientific advancement in understanding the ecosystems in the country's meadows. He noted that the campaign aims to assess the vegetation cover's condition, identify local species, and develop effective rehabilitation and protection plans.
The Ministry continues to enhance its research and field programs, integrating scientific and practical approaches to align with the Qatar National Vision 2030's goals for environmental sustainability, Al Yafei added.
