Doha: Under the patronage of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change launched its 2024-2030 strategy with the slogan "Together towards a sustainable environment for a better future". The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including Their Excellencies Sheikhs, Ministers, and officials from entities involved in environmental work. According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie emphasized that the strategy represents a pivotal step towards achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. The world faces unprecedented environmental challenges, making the Ministry's role crucial in advancing the sustainability sector within the third national development strategy. The strategy sets targets to enhance sustainability practices, including cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, restoring 30% of environmentally affecte d natural resources, protecting 30% of island and coastal areas, and preserving 17 endemic and endangered species. These goals are part of the ministry's comprehensive efforts to preserve biodiversity through over 30 initiatives and 100 projects. Dr. Al Subaie highlighted the strategic vision's focus on achieving a sustainable and balanced environment capable of adapting to climate change. This vision relies on joint institutional and community cooperation, supporting an effective regulatory framework, and enhancing public environmental awareness along four main axes. The first axis, "Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change," focuses on environmental protection, comprehensive management of hazardous materials, and climate change mitigation. The second axis, "Innovation and Digital Transformation," aims to enhance research and development and support digital transformation for sustainable environmental activities. The third axis, "Governance," strengthens environmental legislation and policies, ensu ring compliance and accountability. The fourth axis, "Sustainable Institutional Development," enhances institutional capabilities, fosters community cooperation, and raises environmental awareness for effective participation in achieving national goals. The strategy embodies values such as responsibility, commitment, efficiency, and sustainability. It aims to protect biodiversity, manage hazardous materials, and promote environmental sustainability through circular economy practices, green development, and energy conservation. The strategy also focuses on climate change mitigation, adaptation measures, and collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure effective implementation. The Ministry's vision is to provide a sustainable environment balanced with development, capable of adapting to climate change, and preserving natural resources through joint cooperation and an effective regulatory framework, thereby enhancing public environmental awareness.
