Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change organized the second awareness forum for chemical and hazardous waste disposal companies. Bringing together representatives of public and private agencies along with specialists, the event boosts public-private partnership and aims to raise awareness of environmental legislation. It also seeks to provide better services to companies and inform them of environmental legislation updates. The Ministry's Hazardous Chemicals and Waste Department, which supervised the organization of the forum, reviewed the environmental legislation in force in the State of Qatar. It gave a comprehensive presentation of the laws and regulations governing the use of chemicals and the handling of hazardous waste, and the importance of adhering to these laws to achieve sustainable development and ensure a healthy and safe environment for all. It also highlighted the mechanism for classifying chemicals based on their hazard and potential impact on the environment and human health, based on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals and the United Nations recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods. The participants in the forum learned about the procedures and stages of licensing hazardous materials, where the necessary steps to obtain the required licenses were explained, starting from submitting the application electronically and ending with issuing licenses and releasing shipments at the ports. Participants were also informed about the common mistakes that companies may encounter when submitting release requests, as the Ministry provided advice and guidance to avoid these mistakes, in addition to informing participants of the importance of proper disposal of hazardous waste and the necessity of adhering to the procedures imposed by the Ministry in order to preserve the environment.
