Doha: The Ministry of Labour reported a substantial influx of 91,452 new recruitment and work permit applications during the third quarter of 2024, attributed to its recent digital transformation. This shift has not only facilitated smoother processes but also expedited transaction completions, considerably enhancing the performance of its service departments. According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry's statistical bulletin detailed that the Labour Licensing Department received 18,748 applications for new recruitment, alongside 68,068 applications for work permits related to personal number extensions. Additionally, 4,636 applications were for special work permits aimed at sponsorship of dependents, GCC nationals, investors, and real estate beneficiaries. The bulletin further revealed that the Labour Disputes Department was actively engaged in resolving labour complaints, having received 8,027 complaints and successfully resolving 5,062 of them. Furthermore, the department processed 273 public reports, a ll of which were addressed effectively. The Labour Dispute Committees played a crucial role, with 2,357 cases being referred to these committees, resulting in the issuance of 1,402 decisions. Meanwhile, the Labour Relations Department handled a significant volume of requests, with 148,033 work contract authentications and 32,422 employee secondment requests processed, in addition to 18,277 requests for occupation changes. The Ministry's commitment to regulatory oversight was evident as inspection teams increased their monitoring activities, resulting in a higher percentage of inspections concluding without observations. This reflects an improvement in regulatory adherence across the sector. Notably, 747 inspections of recruitment offices were conducted, with 694 concluding without remarks. The inspections led to 25 warnings for violations, the closure of 15 companies, and a ban on four recruitment offices. The Labour Inspection Department also undertook 8,045 inspections across various regions, issuing war nings to 489 companies and filing 1,772 violation reports. Further efforts by the Occupational Safety and Health Department included 5,798 inspections of work sites and labour accommodations. This resulted in 1,999 warnings issued for compliance issues, underscoring the Ministry's commitment to enhancing occupational safety. The Ministry of Labour continues to urge employers and institutions to comply with Labour Law provisions and regulatory ministerial decisions, aiming to foster a more robust and compliant work environment in Qatar.
