Doha: The Ministry of Culture (MOC) held on Tuesday an awareness session on the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The session discussed recommendations for the implementation of the Convention, a treaty that was adopted in October 2005 in Paris during the 33rd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which affirms the Universal Declaration and refers to human rights as well as the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity. The Convention aims to protect and enhance the diversity of cultural expressions and create conditions that ensure the prosperity of cultures and their free interaction and enrichment of each other. It also encourages dialogue between cultures to ensure broader and more balanced cultural exchanges in the world in support of respect between cultures, spreading a culture of peace, and enhancing cultural communication, with the aim of developing interaction be tween cultures to build bridges between people.
