MOCI and Hassad Food Ink Deal for Central Markets Management and Operations

Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) signed a contract on Sunday with Hassad Food for the management, operation, and provision of services in central markets.

According to Qatar News Agency, this initiative aims to fortify cooperation with Hassad Food to organize central markets and boost the efficiency of services provided within them. This collaboration is expected to improve the work environment, enhance service quality for traders and consumers, and support the country's food security system.

The contract was signed by HE Undersecretary of the MOCI Mohammed bin Hassan Al Malki and CEO of Hassad Food Ali Hilal Al Kuwari. The agreement aligns with MOCI's strategy to develop facility management and operations in line with best practices, enhancing public-private sector partnerships to optimize public asset usage, improve operational performance efficiency, and ensure the sustainability of central markets.

The contract outlines Hassad Food's responsibility in organizing the central markets through management, operation, and service provision. It aims to regulate market operations, boost service quality, and ensure adherence to health and technical standards for smooth commercial activities, customer safety, market stability, and product diversity.

Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Al Ameri, Director of Quality License and Market Control Department at the MOCI, stated that this collaboration forms part of a dual cooperation process launched six years ago. This initiative seeks to develop central markets, improve public facilities, and enhance services for consumers and investors.

Mohammed Ghanim Al Kubaisi, General Manager of Aswaq for Food Facilities Management Company, highlighted the focus on market development and management. He noted the completion of the first phase in 2020 with the Ministry of Municipality and the ongoing efforts to finalize the second phase, emphasizing the improvement of the shopping environment by equipping markets with essential services.

The central markets-Al Sailiya Central Market, Al Wakrah Central Market, and Umm Salal Central Market-serve as integrated platforms catering to traders and consumers, thus supporting local market stability. This agreement underscores MOCI's commitment to modern administrative solutions, enhancing efficiency and adapting to economic changes, thereby fostering a competitive, sustainable business environment aligned with national development goals.
