Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has issued a circular warning car sales outlets against selling, displaying, offering, promoting, advertising, supplying, or trading new and used cars that do not comply with Gulf standard specifications. This directive applies to showrooms, online sales platforms, and other related venues. According to Qatar News Agency, the MOCI emphasized that this action is part of its effort to support transparency and enhance mutual trust between consumers and car sales outlets. The directive is based on Law No. (8) of 2008 regarding consumer protection and its amendments, which outline the obligations of suppliers and the implementation of terms and standards consistent with the law and its executive regulations, particularly Articles (5), (6), and (13). The MOCI highlighted that Article (5) requires suppliers to return the commodity and refund its value or replace or repair any defect free of charge if it does not meet the established standard specifications. Articl e (6) prohibits selling, displaying, promoting, or advertising any adulterated or defective goods, defined as those not conforming to the standard specifications. The statement also noted that Article (13) ensures that suppliers guarantee that goods or services conform to the approved standard specifications announced to consumers. The MOCI called on all car sales outlets to comply with this circular, warning that it will take firm action against those who fail to meet their obligations under Law No. 8 of 2008 and its implementing regulations. It also mentioned ongoing oversight efforts and intensified inspection campaigns to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws and to curb practices violating these laws. Violators will be referred to the relevant authorities for necessary action. The ministry encouraged citizens and residents to report any violations or abuses via the call center: 16001, or through MOCI's social media accounts.
