MOCI Mandates Transparency in Car Pricing and Maintenance Costs

Doha: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has issued a new circular requiring car dealers to transparently disclose the prices of new cars, spare parts, and periodic maintenance costs in marketing advertisements targeted at consumers. This move aims to ensure transparency and improve the consumer experience before the sale of new cars.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry's circular (No. 1 of 2025) aligns with its commitment to enhance mutual trust between consumers and car dealers. This initiative is based on the provisions of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection and its amendments, emphasizing consumer rights. Article 7 of the law prohibits suppliers from presenting products in a misleading manner, while Article 8 mandates clear price labeling. Article 16 holds suppliers accountable for damages resulting from product use.

MOCI outlined that car dealers must implement corrective measures, including prominently displaying new car prices and specifications in showrooms and announcing spare part prices, such as engines and transmissions, in their display areas. Additionally, maintenance fees should be clearly announced. Dealers are also required to provide a large interactive screen within showrooms and maintenance centers, allowing consumers to easily access information about maintenance services and spare parts.

The Ministry highlighted that providing this information electronically or through digital platforms is crucial for consumer awareness regarding costs associated with purchasing and maintaining vehicles. Non-compliance with the circular will lead to legal accountability and punitive measures as per Law No. (8) of 2008.

MOCI encourages consumers to report any violations through the Ministry's call center or social media accounts.
