Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) has organized a workshop titled "Supporting the Implementation of the MRV Project." Representatives from various national entities in both the public and private sectors, along with advisory and technical bodies, and national and international climate action experts, participated in this two-day event.
According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop aims to build national capacity for utilizing a national Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) platform. It introduces the operational mechanisms of this platform and its role in achieving climate goals. The event also clarifies the roles and responsibilities of relevant entities in data collection and submission and seeks to enhance institutional cooperation to ensure the sustainability of climate action in the country.
The workshop program included training sessions and presentations, covering the latest methodologies in data collection and analysis, and reviewing international best practices. In his opening remarks, Director of the Climate Change Department at MoECC, Eng. Saad Abdullah Al Hitmi, emphasized that organizing this workshop reflects Qatar's commitment to promoting climate action and developing national tools that contribute to fulfilling international obligations, particularly the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
Al Hitmi explained that building an effective national MRV system is essential for achieving transparency and tracking progress in reducing emissions. It also contributes to improving the efficiency of national policies and actions related to climate change. The Ministry is working to develop climate information infrastructure and enhance integration among various national sectors, ensuring unified efforts and effective data exchange.
He highlighted that the workshop aims to enhance participants' capabilities in using the national MRV platform and clarifying their responsibilities in preparing and submitting annual climate reports. The emphasis is on the importance of coordination among relevant stakeholders to ensure data flow accuracy and continuity. Al Hitmi noted that the project's success depends on effective partnership and cooperation between national entities and strengthening national capacities while adopting international best practices.
He praised the technical support provided by partners in this field and expressed hope that the workshop would yield a shared vision and a clear roadmap, enabling the project to move from planning to practical implementation. Al Hitmi commended the efforts of the Ministry's working team and all partners involved in preparing and organizing the workshop.
At the end of the first day, participants lauded the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's efforts in organizing the workshop, affirming their commitment to supporting cooperation and coordination to achieve the objectives of the National Measurement, Reporting, and Verification Project.
