Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) launched a number of literary events and competitions for the summer of 2024 aimed at promoting a love for reading and developing literary skills among students of various age groups. The events include the "Summer Activities" program, which encourages children to read and develop their motor and creative skills through manual, environmental, sports, and other activities inspired by books available in the open library on the e-library system. The activities also include the "Summer of Reading" competition, which motivates students to read as many diverse books as possible during the summer holidays through the "Maktabati" website on the electronic library system, and the "Mobile Library," which includes a wide range of diverse resources that meet students' interests and provide interactive activities for them. In this context, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the MOEHE Maha Zaid Al Rawli said that these programs contribute to p romoting and fostering a love for reading among children and youth and work towards building an educated and creative generation. She pointed out that reading is one of the most essential tools for developing mental capabilities and language skills and enhances students' research and exploration abilities. She emphasized that such programs and activities strengthen the level of reading, cultural awareness, and literary consciousness in society, positively impacting future generations. The MOEHE has been keen to activate learning resource centers in the seven summer centers in public schools and provide various reading programs for students to invest their free time in activities that contribute to developing thought and creativity.
