Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) organized an event titled "We're here for them," to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is observed annually on December 3. The event highlighted the importance of caring for children with disabilities during their early years and aimed to raise awareness among nursery affiliates regarding the essential care these children require as part of their rights. According to Qatar News Agency, the event was organized by MOEHE's Department of Nurseries and was attended by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi. It stressed the necessity of encouraging parents to provide medical reports attested by government agencies in Qatar to nurseries and caregivers of children with disabilities, enabling them to take appropriate measures in child care. The event showcased Qatar's experience in educating persons with disabilities and mechanisms for identifying children with learni ng disabilities. It included a workshop discussing the reality of children with disabilities in Qatar's nurseries, strategies for behavior modification, and the responsibilities of parents towards children with disabilities from Sharia and social perspectives. The workshop also emphasized the importance of recognizing learning disabilities in primary school classes. Furthermore, the event highlighted crucial indicators for pre-nursery and pre-school children, shared success stories of individuals with disabilities who have achieved notable accomplishments in Qatar, and featured a theatrical show and an exhibition of creative artworks by students with disabilities, ranging from drawing to embroidery and knitting. Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education Affairs at MOEHE, Omar Abdulaziz Al Naama, stated that the day is celebrated to spotlight the rights of persons with disabilities and their significant community role. He emphasized the importance of providing an environment that allows them to realize their potential and contribute to building a promising future. Al Naama noted that marking this day is not temporary but serves to underline the proper care and inclusion rights of this segment, viewing persons with disabilities as sources of inspiration and excellence. Director of the Nursery Department at MOEHE, Ghada Laram, highlighted the importance of empowering individuals with disabilities, who possess energy and potential to innovate and positively impact society. She noted that these individuals inspire strength, patience, and determination. Participants at the event unanimously agreed on the rights of persons with disabilities to good education and the involvement of family members, the Ministry of Public Health, and educational institutions in providing all necessary facilitation for their success, advancement, and inclusion in society.
