MOJ Participates in 2nd GCC Law, Arbitration Week in Manama

Manama: The Ministry of Justice (MOJ), represented by the Arbitration Affairs Department, has taken part in the second GCC Law and Arbitration Week conference held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The conference brought together an elite of experts and specialists in legal and arbitration fields from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry noted that its participation in the conference included a dialogue session entitled "The Role of Women in Law, the Judiciary, and Arbitration in the GCC Countries." During the session, Mariam Jassim Al Tamimi, a Legal Researcher in the Arbitration Affairs Department, presented Qatar's experience in empowering women and enhancing their presence within the justice system. In response to a question about the alignment of women's empowerment in arbitration with Qatar National Vision 2030, she emphasized that the National Vision prioritizes women's empowerment as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development. She added that women hold leadership positions within the Ministry of Justice and play pivotal roles with efficiency and responsibility in supporting the justice system.

During her presentation on the significance of the increase in the number of female arbitrators between 2019 and 2025, Al Tamimi explained that these indicators reflect the evolution of the professional arbitration environment, which is now based on merit and competence. She emphasized that women's participation has become an active and influential element in this specialized field, alongside a growing awareness of the importance of diversity in the composition of arbitration panels.

The session addressed the qualitative shifts in the participation of Gulf women, particularly in Qatar, where they have moved from limited presence to active contributions in the fields of law, the judiciary, and arbitration. This progress is supported by legislative and constitutional frameworks that promote equal opportunities and empower women within the justice system.

The statement pointed out that the participation of the Arbitration Affairs Department at the Ministry of Justice in the conference stems from its commitment to strengthening legal and arbitration cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and exchanging expertise in developing legislative and judicial systems. This contributes to supporting the investment environment and enhancing the stability of commercial transactions.

The conference witnessed discussions on a number of topics related to legislation, investments and major projects, in addition to highlighting the role of arbitration as an effective tool for settling disputes and enhancing the business environment in the region, reflecting the Gulf trend towards developing legal systems to keep pace with economic and developmental changes.
