Doha: AS Monaco, currently fifth in France's Ligue 1, has named Belgian manager Sebastien Pocognoli as head coach of the first team on a contract running through 2027. The 38-year-old former Belgian international replaces Austrian coach Adi Hutter, who was dismissed after leading the club to four wins in seven matches this season.
According to Qatar News Agency, Monaco said in a statement that Pocognoli's appointment follows his successful tenure in the Belgian Pro League, where he guided Union Saint-Gilloise to a historic league title last season and secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The club praised Pocognoli's dynamic and ambitious style of play, which earned him widespread recognition in Belgium and the Pro League Coach of the Year award.
Pocognoli is set to make his debut on the Monaco touchline on October 18 against Angers in Ligue 1, followed by a Champions League clash with Tottenham Hotspur four days later.
