MoPH Updates Healthcare Practitioner Licensing Policy to Benefit Three Key Categories

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced that Circular No. (24/2025) concerning the update on the Registration and Licensing Policy of Healthcare Practitioners in Qatar aims to enhance the healthcare system's workforce and streamline administrative procedures for medical professionals.

According to Qatar News Agency, Director of Registration at the Department of Healthcare Professions at MoPH, Jawaher Al Ali, stated that the update primarily targets three main categories: Qatari nationals, children of Qatari women, and holders of Qatari family residency permits. The update focuses on simplifying registration and licensing procedures for these groups.

Al Ali explained that the update reviews requirements related to professional experience and the Prometric exam for university graduates from Qatar and abroad to ensure their efficient integration into the healthcare labor market. Graduates from public and private universities in Qatar are exempted from needing professional experience for licensing in fields such as general dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and allied health professions.

Specific regulations were highlighted for physicians graduating from Qatari universities, requiring them to complete a year of experience to practice as general practitioners. This can be fulfilled through an internship or supervised practical experience according to existing laws.

Additionally, Al Ali noted that Qatari medical graduates entering residency programs directly are not required to complete an internship, as they receive a resident physician license. The circular also includes updates for graduates from international universities, offering special advantages for Qatari nationals and children of Qatari women in specific specialties, and outlines experience requirements for those with family residency permits in Qatar.
