Morocco Crowned U-20 FIFA World Cup Champions After Defeating Argentina

Doha: The Moroccan national team won the FIFA U-20 World Cup title after defeating Argentina 2-0 in the final match of the tournament, which was hosted by Chile.

According to Qatar News Agency, Morocco owes its victory to Portuguese club Famalic £o striker Yassir Zabiri, who scored both goals in the 12th and 29th minutes, raising his tournament tally to five goals, which placed him at the top of the scorers' list.

This was Morocco's first-ever appearance in a World Cup final at this level, with its previous best result being a semi-final finish in the 2005 edition held in the Netherlands. The win denied Argentina a record-extending seventh title.

On their path to the title, Morocco eliminated several football powerhouses: 1999 champions Spain and five-time champions Brazil in the group stage, followed by South Korea in the round of 16, the United States in the quarter-finals, and 2013 champions France in the semi-finals.

With this historic win, Morocco becomes the first Arab country to win the U-20 World Cup, and only the second African nation to do so, after Ghana's triumph in 2009 in Egypt.
