MSF Warns of Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza As Cold Intensifies, Israeli Attacks Continue

Paris: Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has warned of a deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza due to severe weather conditions and ongoing Israeli attacks on the Strip. Hunter McGovern, MSF's Gaza project coordinator, said Wednesday that the Gaza Strip is currently experiencing harsh winter conditions, noting that large numbers of residents are living in makeshift plastic shelters.

According to Qatar News Agency, McGovern explained that those not living in these shelters are residing in old tents that have been severely damaged by strong winds and rain. He added that Palestinians in Gaza have been living in these tents for a long time and have had to move them several times due to winter weather and flooding.

McGovern emphasized that children are dying from the extreme cold, as are adults, and asserted that the term catastrophe was insufficient to describe the scale of the tragedy. He noted that Israeli attacks continue to occur regularly, in addition to Israel's ban on the activities of some international civil society organizations operating in Gaza, pointing out that entire Palestinian families are living under a limited number of blankets.

The organization's project coordinator revealed that the Doctors Without Borders project in Gaza City serves approximately 2,900 patients, indicating that Doctors Without Borders is on the list of organizations that will be banned. He noted that these patients rely heavily on the medical services provided by the organization, emphasizing that the support from other relief organizations is insufficient.

The occupation authorities continue to prevent the entry of sufficient quantities of food, medicine, medical supplies, relief materials, and shelter into Gaza, which is home to approximately 1.5 million displaced people out of the roughly 2.4 million Palestinians living in the besieged territory for over 18 years.
