Doha: The Ministry of Municipality hosted a lecture entitled "Adaptive Reuse of Buildings" as part of the "Architecture and Design" program, in cooperation with Qatar Museums. The event saw participation from notable figures including Eng. Turki Fahd Al Turki, Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs, and Eng. Abdullah Ahmed Al Karani, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs. Also in attendance were Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums, and Sheikha Reem Al-Thani, Deputy CEO of AL RIWAQ, Public Art, and Rubaiya Qatar, alongside other officials from the Ministry of Municipality and Qatar Museums.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event underscores the significance of adopting architectural solutions that promote sustainability and improve the urban environment. The lecture, delivered by architect Angus Campbell from Qatar Museums, explored global practices in the field of repurposing buildings. Campbell discussed strategies for transforming existing facilities into spaces that meet contemporary needs while preserving their architectural and cultural value. This approach contributes to resource rationalization, energy efficiency enhancement, and sustainable urban development.
The Urban Planning Affairs Sector has previously conducted nine workshops as part of the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Municipality and Qatar Museums. Over five months, these workshops included specialized lectures and discussion panels focusing on professional development, experience exchange, and best practices in sustainable urban planning and design.
This initiative reflects the commitment of both parties to support innovation in architecture, enhance institutional integration, and contribute to a sustainable urban environment, aligning with Qatar's national development goals and aspirations for a sustainable future in urban planning.
