The Ministry of Culture and the Directorate-General of the Antiquities and Museums started the works of restoration and rehabilitation of the National Museum in Maarat al-Numan city in Idleb countryside.
The museum was partly damaged due to the acts of sabotage by the terrorist organizations during their presence in the region over the past years.
“The current situation of Maarat al-Numan Museum is not bad in general, despite the destruction caused by terrorists along with their attempts to steal its artifacts”, Minister of Culture, Dr. Lubana Mshaweh said to journalists.
Mshaweh voiced her confidence in the ability of staffers and the patriotic people of Maarat al-Numan to restore and preserve their national museum.
Mshaweh stated that the Directorate-General of the Antiquities and Museums, in cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman, has re-documented all the artifacts in the museum and transported them.
The focus will be on restoring its archaeological holdings, especially the world-famous mosaic paintings, the minister added.
