National Day Marks Milestone in Qatar-Costa Rica Relations, Says Costa Rican Ambassador

Doha: HE Ambassador of the Republic of Costa Rica to the State of Qatar Juan Carlos Esquivel emphasized that Qatar National Day (QND) represents a significant milestone in Qatar's history and is an invaluable opportunity to reflect on the deep ties that unite Qatar and Costa Rica.

According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency highlighted the similarities between the two nations, including their shared aspirations and challenges. He noted the integrity and respect cultivated over the years as a testament to the joint efforts of the governments and people of Costa Rica and Qatar. This mutual respect has earned the admiration of other countries in the region, contributing to the stability of bilateral relations between the two nations.

His Excellency described QND as a day of pride and unity, where citizens and residents come together to celebrate the country's achievements, cultural identity, and shared sense of belonging. He noted that QND reflects Qatar's respect for its history and traditions while showcasing confidence in a future built on progress, inclusivity, and innovation.

The ambassador recognized Qatar's reputation as a trusted mediator in resolving disputes and settling conflicts. Both Qatar and Costa Rica are committed to promoting peace and security, adhering to international law, and fostering multilateralism. He praised Qatar's consistent, credible, and dialogue-driven diplomacy.

Qatar's balanced foreign policy, based on mutual respect and humanitarian principles, has positioned it as a trusted mediator and constructive partner in global affairs. His Excellency commended Qatar's remarkable development over the years, highlighting its economic diversification, infrastructure advancements, and investments in human capital, sustainability, and innovation. Achievements in education, health, technology, and sports reflect Qatar's strategic vision that balances modernization with cultural preservation.

The ambassador emphasized the shared commitment of both countries to sustainable development and environmental protection, citing Costa Rica's leadership in biodiversity and Qatar's efforts to reduce arid areas and increase green spaces through its National Vision 2030.

His Excellency noted the growing cooperation between the two nations, particularly in trade, education, sustainable development, and cultural exchange. He mentioned Costa Rica's significant increase in exports to Qatar over the past two years, reflecting a shared commitment to building a prosperous future.

The ambassador highlighted the doubling of imports and exports between Costa Rica and Qatar, demonstrating mutual interest in exchanging goods such as live plants, ceramic products, machinery, electrical appliances, petroleum derivatives, and decorative panels.

Concluding his remarks, His Excellency recalled the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Costa Rica, resulting in several agreements that strengthen relations in trade, sports, science, education, and technology. These agreements are seen as a tangible manifestation of the joint will to enhance cooperation further.
